Majors players are between 16 and 20 years of age and come from across Ontario, the United States and Europe. (This year the Majors have drafted players from Finland and Russia). Playing junior hockey is a significant time in a players life and billet families play an instrumental part in a players development. This is also a unique opportunity to be part of the Majors family during their run to the 2011 Mastercard Memorial Cup which will be hosted in Mississauga.
Majors players arrive in late August and will be with their billet families until the May 2011. Majors player juggle a busy schedule that includes 68 games (34 homes and 34 on the road), plus exhibition and playoff games, as well as daily practices and managing their own school schedules . Players living with billets must also conform to the rules set out by the team as well as the home they are sharing. In a best case scenario, players become a part of their billet family. Billet families do receive compensation each month.
